Volunteer
Like bailing the Titanic, volunteers alone can't stop Grizzly Peak from sinking. The only way to transform the site into a clean and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy is to compel UC Berkeley and the other landowners to step up and earn our tax dollars and tuition.
Accordingly, I've slowed our cleanups for the foreseeable future and largely shifted our focus to political action. If you'd like to help out, please contact Grizzly Peak's public servants and ask them to adopt the common-sense strategies discussed on our Views page. Keep your message friendly, short, and personal, and feel free to use our media!
- The UC Regents;
- Cal's Office of Sustainability;
- Cal's Facilities Department and its head, Felix DeLeon ([email protected]);
- Cal's Zero Waste Program and its head, Lin King ([email protected]);
- Oakland Public Works and OAK311 (Oakland owns the road and a narrow strip of right of way);
- Janani Ramachandran, Oakland District 4;
- The East Bay Regional Park District (the EBRPD owns the land east of the road, but can pressure Cal);
- Brent Blackaby, Berkeley District 6 (Grizzly Peak is outside Berkeley's city limits, but his district has strong sway);
- Nikki Fortunato Bas, Alameda County District 5;
- Buffy Wicks, State Assembly District 14;
- Tim Grayson, State Senate District 9; and
- Gavin Newsom, Governor (Gavin's big on litter cleanups).
